About this event
GASDA invites the community to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Galmudug in Melbourne—two decades of unity, culture and community.
The evening will celebrate our heritage and the future we are building together, with live entertainment from Hassan Gantaal, Badal Yare, Queen Shukrina and DJ Hash. Entry is free and dinner will be provided.
What to expect
- Traditional performancesEnergetic folk dancing, rhythmic drumming and Maanso—spoken-word poetry sharing stories of history and heritage.
- Nomadic heritage displayA recreation of the Aqal, the portable Somali nomadic home, accompanied by traditional artefacts and crafts.
- Community feastGather over traditional favourites including spiced rice (bariis), roasted meat and sweet Somali tea (shaah).
- Attire and artDiscover colourful traditional clothing, henna artistry and visual exhibitions celebrating Somali creativity.
